Dr. Jaqua is the Program Director of the Transitional Year Residency Program and Medical Director of the Center for Aging at San Antonio Regional Hospital in Upland, California. Originally from Brazil, Dr. Jaqua began her medical journey at the age of seventeen at The Lutheran University of Brazil, inspired by a lifelong passion for medicine and a commitment to caring for patients across all stages of life.
She completed her Family Medicine residency at Loma Linda University Health, where she served as Chief Resident during her final year, and subsequently completed a Geriatric Medicine fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Jaqua is board certified in Family Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, Lifestyle Medicine, and Obesity Medicine. She also holds a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Strategic Leadership, is a certified Lifestyle Medicine Intensivist, and is an HIV Specialist.
Dr. Jaqua is passionate about graduate medical education, physician leadership development, healthy aging, lifestyle medicine, obesity medicine, and advancing age-friendly care across both clinical and community settings. She is dedicated to mentoring the next generation of physicians and helping residents develop the clinical excellence, professionalism, and compassion necessary to serve diverse patient populations.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Jaqua enjoys spending time with her family and is happily married with a daughter, Celine. She enjoys reading, hiking with her family, traveling, and playing volleyball. Known for her energetic personality, she can often be found singing along to her favorite music while driving around campus.
Dr. Gowda is the Associate Program Director for the Transitional Year Medicine Residency program at SARH, and Associate Professor at Western U of health sciences and community faculty for UCR School of Medicine. Board-certified in internal and obesity medicine, she specializes in comprehensive primary care with mental health integration, women's health, and addiction medicine. As Associate Program Director, she is dedicated to medical education, mentoring, and advancing health equity through clinical leadership, curriculum development, and community-based care.
Karen Arriaga is an international physician who continued her career in the United States as a public health professional, serving nonprofit organizations and the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health before joining San Antonio Regional Hospital (SARH).
A passionate Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), Karen has dedicated her career to community outreach, health education, and improving access to resources that help individuals and families lead healthier lives.
She is honored to support the training of future physicians and contribute to improving healthcare in the region.
Outside of work, she enjoys road trips, spending time at the beach and in the mountains, and watching movies with her family.
A Board Certified Family Physician and Master Preceptor in Medical Education. Dr. Barag has been In active private practice for 48 years with no plan on retiring. Residing in Rancho Cucamonga for the past 30 years, all of his children were born at SARH and his right hip was replaced here. His goal is to serve SARH, the community of physicians, our patients and influence the future of healthcare through Graduate Medical Education.
Dr. Shiu believes the key to wellness starts with education. He tailors his care to meet the individual's needs and collaborates with them to implement a plan that works for them. He gives them his undivided attention, patience, and time to answer questions, to ensure that each patient receives the individualized care that they deserve.
He takes pride in sustaining old-fashioned values with state-of-the-art medical care. His patients’ referrals to their own family members are testament to his thorough and compassionate service.
Dr. Mark Shiu is double board certified in Family Medicine and is a teaching faculty physician at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center. He also earned his Master of Public Health in Epidemiology from UCLA. He has staff affiliations with San Antonio Regional Hospital and Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.
