The Lewis-San Antonio Healthy Communities Institute (HCI)
The Lewis-San Antonio Healthy Communities Institute (HCI) was established in April 2016 by Randall Lewis (a local community visionary, innovator & philanthropist) in collaboration with San Antonio Regional Hospital to positively impact the health of the Inland Empire region.
HCI aims to create the next generation of healthcare providers and provide solutions to the high numbers of chronic diseases.
Our programs provide adolescents with:
- health education in schools settings
- professional development opportunities
- career readiness seminars
- medical certifications
Super Science Days (4th-6th grade)
- Engages and excites elementary school students about STEM and healthcare careers.
- Encourages students to participate in interactive experiments and interdisciplinary STEM activities.
Young Healthcare Professionals (7-12th grade)
- High school students explore allied healthcare careers and develop professional skills.
- Students receive trainings and certifications such as Hands-Only CPR Trainings, Stop an Opiod Overdose, Stop the Bleed, and more!
- Offers career readiness skills such as interviewing and resume writing.
Clinical Shadowing Program (Juniors in High School)
- Provides high school students early career exploration into healthcare professions.
- Volunteers shadow various departments in a hospital such as Telemetry, Pharmacy, Surgery, Oncology, Urgent Care, Radiology, Laboratory, and Cardiology.
- Offers students professional development trainings and networking opportunities.

Wellness Starts With You! A Randall Lewis Initiative (9-12th grade)
- College/graduate school students provide health education to high school students.
- High school students learn about nutrition, movement, sleep and mental resilience.
